what value of ‘x’ is the expression undefined: x 4/x2-25

what value of ‘x’ is the expression undefined: x 4/x2-25

x 4/x2-25 = x 4/(x + 5)(x – 5)

Notice that the denominator is 0 when x = 5 or -5.
Thus, at these two values, the expression is undefined.

So the equation is undefined when x=±5 because that would make the denominator zero.

the expression is undefined when denominator is equal to zero. therefore,
x=5 or -5

The expression is undefined if the denominator is zero. So, equate the denominator to zero and solve for x:
x2-25 = 0
x2 = 25
x = ± square root of 25
x = ± 5.
Both +5 and -5 will make the expression undefined.

(x + 4)
(x – 5)(x + 5)

Undefined for x = 5 (assuming x > 0)
